Belt length and width
Not published by Toro on this belt’s own pageToro publishes no length and no width for this belt on its own product page, which is where a dimension would be. That page names no machine either: it says the part has multiple applications and tells you to verify model and serial number. Measure the belt you are replacing. Nothing either belt page publishes distinguishes 38990 from this number by a measurement, so the machine each is listed for is the only thing separating them.

Selection

Choosing this part

Toro’s name for this belt says "RWD" — rear-wheel drive — and that is the part of it that matters. The front-wheel-drive 20339 is the same 22 in. cutting width with the same engine size, and it takes belt 38990 instead. Matching the specification of your mower to someone else’s will not catch that; matching the model number will.

Where to buy

Which retailers we list, and the order we list them in, is decided on usefulness to the reader — stock depth, shipping, and return terms. It is not decided by commission rate, and no retailer can pay for placement or for a better fitment verdict.

The Toro Company · Primary source · Accessed August 17, 2026

Toro’s official parts listing for the earliest of the three ranges we verified. Lists 20234 (Engine Maintenance Kit for Briggs & Stratton Engine) and 108-8120 (TRACTION ASSIST KIT [PPG2]). Also lists 38991, 59534P, 59502, 59503 and 490-7462. The range selector on this page names thirteen further serial ranges for the same model number.

The next published range. Lists 130-8148 (Briggs & Stratton EXi Engine Maintenance Kit Replacement) and 131-4590 (Traction Assist Handle) where the previous range listed 20234 and 108-8120. Still lists 59502; 137-4833P does not appear.

The later range. Still lists 130-8148 and 131-4590, so the maintenance kit does not change again here. It lists 137-4833P (8 Inch Front Wheel) and does not list 59502 — a second, separate boundary within the same model number.

22 inch Drive Belt for RWD Toro WPM (Part # 38991)

The Toro Company · Primary source · Accessed August 21, 2026

Toro’s product page for the rear-wheel-drive belt, served directly at this number with no redirect and carrying no supersession line in either direction. It publishes no belt length and no width. Like 38990 it names no machine and tells the buyer to verify model and serial number, so neither belt page distinguishes the two numbers by anything measurable.
