130-8149→130-8146at 402082000

Toro lists 130-8149 for this range and 130-8146 for 402082000–403599999.

Those two ranges are consecutive, so the kit changes at 402082000. The blade does not change with it — 20122P is listed for both.

In detail

This production run

A 21199 in the earliest range Toro publishes takes maintenance kit 130-8149, listed as BRIGGS MAINT KIT - TM 17 & NEWER. That is the abbreviated title as Toro prints it; the page does not say what the 17 denotes, and we are not going to guess. This is the only one of the eleven listings Toro publishes where that kit appears.

From 402082000 the listing shows 130-8146, the Engine Maintenance Kit for Walk-Behind Power Mower, instead. Those two ranges are consecutive in Toro’s list, so that boundary is exact.

The blade is steadier than the kit here. Toro lists the 15.4 Inch Hi-Lift Replacement Blade Kit (TimeMaster), 20122P, for this range and for the next one, and the 15.4 Inch Atomic Blade 20120P for neither.

Toro publishes eleven listings for this model number and all eleven have been opened. Ten carry an accessory list; the eleventh, 413000000–414709995, publishes none, so nothing here is scoped to it.

If you are close to the edge

Serial numbers near a boundary

402082000 is a hard edge for the kit and not for the blade. If your serial sits within a few thousand below it, the kit the listing shows is 130-8149, while the blade is 20122P on either side.

Method

How we established this

We opened Toro’s parts listings for model 21199 under serial ranges 400000000–402081999, 402082000–403599999, 407700000–410243166 and 414709996–999999999, and compared their accessory lists against each other within the part categories this site records.

The common mistake: Reading "TM 17 & NEWER" as covering every later TimeMaster. Toro does not list 130-8149 in any of the ten later runs.

The latest published range. Still no maintenance kit. Blade 20122P is listed again, and 20120P is not — so across the four ranges we opened the blade number does not move in one direction.
