Toro 21485

Discharge chutes for the Toro 21485

Short answer

139-6556 to 418396424 and 147-8696 after it. The run that names nothing falls above that change rather than across it.

What decides it

The numbers that matter here

Your serial range

139-6556 to 418396424; 147-8696 from 418396425

No 21485 listing names both, so there is one answer per serial and nothing to choose between.

This machine changes last of the four

The 21472 changes over 123,000 serials earlier

Four mowers here move between these two numbers and no two share a serial. Being the last to change means a sibling's answer is wrong for a long stretch.

If your serial is 420000000–420631775

Your listing names nothing — but the answer is not in doubt

The gap sits above the change, not across it. The runs directly below and above both name 147-8696 and are identical in every number.

Toro states the supersession

Both product pages carry “Replaces Product 139-6556”

Stronger than inferring it from which number sits against which range, and the only thing Toro publishes about how the two relate.

In detail

Choosing discharge chutes for this mower

Toro lists two discharge chutes across the 21485's production. 139-6556 covers everything up to 418396424; 147-8696 begins at 418396425 and is on every listing above it that names accessories. No 21485 listing names both.

Toro states the relationship on its own pages rather than leaving it to be read off the ranges: requesting either chute as a product serves one page, for 147-8696, carrying the line “Replaces Product 139-6556”.

**This machine changes last.** Four mowers on this site move between these two numbers and the 21485's boundary is the highest of the four — the all-wheel-drive 21472 changes at 418272600, more than 123,000 serials earlier. A chute number taken from a sibling's listing is the wrong number here, and being the last to change is why: there is a stretch where every other Recycler has moved and this one has not.

**Then there is the run that names nothing at all.** 420000000–420631775 publishes no accessory list, so an owner inside it is shown no chute.

**It falls clear of the change, and that is the part worth understanding.** The run directly below the gap names 147-8696 and the run directly above names 147-8696, and the two lists are identical in every number they carry. The change happened well below the gap and nothing crosses it. So a reader inside that window has an unambiguous answer even though their own page is blank.

**A gap sitting across a boundary would be a different problem entirely** — you would be inside the window where the answer changes, with no page telling you which side of it your machine falls. That has not happened anywhere on this site. **Every empty run here that has a listing on both sides is bracketed by two identical lists; not one of them conceals a change.** That is what makes an empty listing something to read around rather than something to worry about, and it is an observation about what we have read rather than a rule Toro publishes.

What Toro does not publish is what either chute is, or whether the two mount the same way. The listings give a number and a name. If you are ordering across the boundary rather than from the listing for your own serial, that is a question for a dealer.

The mistake we see most

Reading the blank run as the range where the chute changed. The change is at 418396425, well below it, and the runs on both sides of the blank name the same chute and the same everything else.

Method

How we established this

We opened all five listings Toro publishes for model 21485 and recorded the chute on each; all of them were re-read on 31 August 2026. That the gap is bracketed by identical lists was established by comparing the two runs either side as complete accessory lists rather than by looking the chute up alone, and the same comparison was run against every empty run on this site. The supersession comes from the product page both chute numbers lead to, and the other three machines' boundaries from their own listings.

The answer is not the same on every machine, which is the point of checking rather than assuming.

This listing carries no accessory list at all. What it does carry is seven of Toro’s assembly drawings — Deck Decal, Engine and Blade, Front Wheel and Height-of-Cut, Handle, Housing, Rear Bag, and Rear Wheel and Height-of-Cut — and the usual Parts & Manuals section. Recorded as a source so the range is accounted for, and scoped to no fitments: a page that lists nothing is not a page that lists an absence.

    ASM-CHUTE, SD (Part # 147-8696) — reached from /product/139-6556

The Toro Company · Primary source · Accessed August 31, 2026

Requesting the 139-6556 product URL answers 200 with no redirect and serves a page titled ASM-CHUTE, SD under part number 147-8696, carrying the line “Replaces Product 139-6556.” It describes neither chute — no discharge type, no machine application. This is Toro stating the supersession between the two numbers directly, which seven pages on this site said it did not state. **Re-read 31 August 2026 and unchanged in every particular**, including the supersession line, the absence of any description and the serial field reading None-None.

    ASM-CHUTE, SD (Part # 147-8696)

The Toro Company · Primary source · Accessed August 31, 2026

Toro’s product page for the SD chute, served directly at this number with no redirect. It carries the same line, “Replaces Product 139-6556.” It gives no discharge type and names no machine, so what the chute is and what it fits are still not published anywhere we have found — only the relationship between the two numbers is.
