In detail

Choosing discharge chutes for this mower

This is an unusual shape and worth describing precisely, because it is easy to misread.

On the 400000000–408899999 listing Toro shows both 139-6556, named Chute Assembly, and 147-8696, named ASM-CHUTE, SD. Two chute numbers on one page. On the 418272600–999999999 listing only 147-8696 appears; 139-6556 is gone.

That is not, as this page said until 21 August, different from the 21462. Both machines do the same thing, and neither does it cleanly: the 21462 carries both chutes for three of its runs too. The difference is where the overlap sits — on the 21472 it is at the beginning, on the 21462 in the middle. Here the two appear together first. All of the 21462's listings are open, so that contrast covers the model rather than a sample.

We are not going to tell you what the two chutes are for, or whether one is a side discharge and the other something else — Toro publishes neither. On the third question it does publish an answer: both numbers lead to one product page, for 147-8696, and it carries the line “Replaces Product 139-6556.” We found no description, on the Toro pages we opened, for either number and does not say. What we can tell you is which numbers appear against which range on this machine, and that the same pair appears on the 21462 in a different arrangement.

If your serial number falls in the earlier range and you need a chute, the sensible move is to ask a dealer which of the two you have rather than picking one.

    Requesting the 139-6556 product URL answers 200 with no redirect and serves a page titled ASM-CHUTE, SD under part number 147-8696, carrying the line “Replaces Product 139-6556.” It describes neither chute — no discharge type, no machine application. This is Toro stating the supersession between the two numbers directly, which seven pages on this site said it did not state. **Re-read 31 August 2026 and unchanged in every particular**, including the supersession line, the absence of any description and the serial field reading None-None.
