Choosing engine oil for this mower
The 21472 lists oil the same way from its oldest run to its newest: 38903, SAE 30 in a 32 oz bottle; 38916, the same grade in 18 oz; and 138-6053, the full synthetic 10W-30. All seven listings name accessories and all of them name those three. The older synthetic, 117-0066, is named on none.
That is worth saying on this machine in particular, because the part next to it does something a reader could easily read wrong. Both discharge chutes, 139-6556 and 147-8696, are listed together on the oldest runs. Then 147-8696 stops being listed for three runs in the middle. Then it is listed again on the newest run — and 139-6556 is not. A number that appears, disappears and returns is the hardest shape to read off a parts page, and the runs where each is named are set out on this model’s serial-range pages rather than argued here.
The point for oil is the contrast. Nothing about the three oil numbers follows the chute. They do not enter, leave, pause or return at any of those serials, or at any other. If you are working out what oil your 21472 takes, your serial number is not part of the question.

It names engine makes and no machine, model or engine number, so it establishes the product and not the fitment.
