Toro 21200
Engine oil for the Toro 21200
Short answer
The same two SAE 30 bottles on every listing that names accessories, and a synthetic that changes number at 405700000 — not at the 21199’s serial.

What decides it
The numbers that matter here
- Which synthetic
117-0066 below 405700000, 138-6053 from it
The number that actually depends on your serial. Toro marks the older one *OBS* on the listings that still name it, so a machine below that serial is reading a discontinued number rather than choosing between two products.
- Do not borrow the 21199’s serial
Same change, different serial: 405700000 here, 410243167 there
The two model numbers are the same engine and the same four oil numbers, which makes cross-referencing them look safe. It is not — the change is four and a half million serials apart, and everything in between reads the opposite way.
- Grade and bottle size
SAE 30 32 oz (38903) or 18 oz (38916), on every listing
Neither depends on the serial. The two numbers are one grade in two quantities, and with no published sump capacity neither is “one oil change” until you have read the manual.
- One empty listing
413000000–414514168 names no accessories at all
No oil appears there because nothing appears there. The listing is empty rather than short, and the runs below and above it both name the same three oils.
In detail
Choosing engine oil for this mower
The 21200 is the electric-start version of the 21199 on the same Briggs & Stratton engine, and Toro lists the same four oil numbers for both. It does not change them at the same serial, and that is the thing worth knowing before you borrow an answer from the other model.
Both machines carry the full synthetic 10W-30 as 117-0066 and then as 138-6053. On the 21200 the change lands at 405700000, with four listings below naming the older number and six above naming the newer. On the 21199 the same change lands at 410243167. A reader who reads the 21199’s page, notes the serial, and applies it to a 21200 gets the wrong side of the change for every machine between those two numbers.
Underneath the synthetic, nothing moves. 38903 is SAE 30 in a 32 oz bottle and 38916 is the same grade in 18 oz, and both are named on all ten listings that name accessories at all — they differ in how much you are buying, not in what fits.
The eleventh listing names no accessories whatsoever. The run 413000000–414514168 publishes an empty list, so finding no oil number there is a fact about the page and not about the machine; the runs either side of it both name 138-6053.
The serial where the synthetic changes is also where this machine’s listed blade changes, and that boundary has its own pages under this model’s serial ranges. Toro publishes no sump capacity here, so how much oil the engine takes is a manual question.
The mistake we see most
Method
How we established this
We opened all eleven listings Toro publishes for model 21200 and recorded which oil numbers each names, then opened the product pages for all four. The serial where the synthetic changes was read from two consecutive listings. The comparison with the 21199 is between two matrices built the same way, not between one listing and a memory of another.

The answer is not the same on every machine, which is the point of checking rather than assuming.

Toro publishes this listing for the model and serial range, and it carries no accessory list at all — assembly drawings, a downloadable parts catalog and manuals only. We opened it and there is nothing on it to record, which is why no fitment on this site is scoped to this range. That is different from a part being absent from a list: this page makes no statement about any part.

SAE 30 4-Cycle Lawn Mower Engine Oil 32 oz (Part # 38903)
The Toro Company · Primary source · Accessed August 29, 2026
The number requested, answered without a redirect and with no “Replaces Product” line in either direction. Toro describes it as a mono-grade fluid for high-temperature use and states it “meets or exceeds performance requirements of all OEM products (Toro®, Briggs & Stratton®, Kohler®, Honda® and Tecumseh®)”. It names engine makes and no machine, model or engine number, so it establishes the product and not the fitment.

SAE 30 4-Cycle Summer Engine Oil 18 oz. (Part # 38916)
The Toro Company · Primary source · Accessed August 29, 2026
The number requested, no redirect and no “Replaces Product” line. Same mono-grade SAE 30 description as 38903 and the same list of engine makes, in an 18 oz. bottle rather than 32 oz. The page is marked “Not Available Online”, which is a statement about Toro’s own checkout and not about whether the oil is listed for a machine. This is the bottle kit 20298 itemizes.

OIL-30/10W-30 SYNTHETIC CK4 [QT] (Part # 138-6053), served at /product/117-0066
The Toro Company · Primary source · Accessed September 5, 2026
Requesting the 117-0066 product URL serves the page for 138-6053 under the line “Replaces Product 117-0066”, which is Toro stating the oil supersession directly rather than this site inferring it from which number sits against which serial range. Re-read 31 August 2026 and unchanged, and again 5 September 2026. Internal designation OIL-30/10W-30 SYNTHETIC CK4 [QT]. One bullet frames the oil for zero-turn riding mowers (TimeCutter MX, Titan, Titan MX) while the overview calls it the choice for any outdoor power equipment; the page names no walk-behind model. It does state a capacity — the title reads “(32 oz.)” and the first bullet repeats “10W-30 engine oil (32 oz.)” — corrected 5 September 2026 from an earlier reading that missed it.

OIL-30/10W-30 SYNTHETIC CK4 [QT] (Part # 138-6053)
The Toro Company · Primary source · Accessed August 28, 2026
The same page served at its own number, and it is the same page carrying that one “Replaces Product 117-0066” line — so Toro states the supersession once and either number reaches it, which is not the same as stating it from both directions. This page is now also the source for part 138-6053 itself: batch 13 created the pt_engine_oil category, so the clause that used to sit here — that engine oil is in no category this site records — stopped being true the moment that batch was staged.
