Toro 20339
Drive belts for the Toro 20339
Short answer
Toro lists belt 38990, the 22 Inch Drive Belt for Recycler Mower, for both serial ranges we verified. It is not 38991 — that is the belt for the rear-wheel-drive 20334.

What decides it
The numbers that matter here
- Drive type
The 20339 is front-wheel drive; 38990 is its belt
The rear-wheel-drive 20334 takes 38991. The two mowers differ in drive and start type, but share cutting width, engine size and deck material — the specifications a shopper is most likely to compare.
- Serial range
Same belt in the eight runs that list one
The belt does not change from 315000001 up, though the maintenance kit does. The earliest run lists no belt at all, and all nine listings are open, so that is Toro publishing none rather than us not having looked.
- Belt length and width
Not published on the belt’s own product page
Toro names both belts but publishes no dimensions for either, so there is no figure to check a candidate against. That leaves the part number doing all the work.
In detail
Choosing drive belts for this mower
The drive belt is the one part on this machine where the danger is not your serial number but the mower standing next to yours.
Toro lists 38990 for the 20339 in eight of its nine runs — every one from 315000001 up. The belt does not change across those eight. What it does is not appear at all on the earliest listing, 314000001–314999999, so a reader whose serial starts 314 has no belt number from Toro for their machine. What does change is which mower you are looking at. The Toro 20334 is also a 22 in. Toro walk-behind with a Briggs & Stratton EXi of 163 cc and a 14-gauge steel deck — and it takes 38991, one digit away.
The two machines are not identical — Toro's product pages give them different drive types, different start types and different wheel configurations — but they share the things a shopper is most likely to compare: the 22 in. cutting width, the Briggs & Stratton EXi 163 cc engine, and the 14-gauge steel deck. Toro's name for 38991 carries the distinction that matters, "22 inch Drive Belt for RWD Toro WPM", while 38990 is simply "22 Inch Drive Belt for Recycler Mower". Read past the description to the number.
Toro publishes no length or width for either belt, so there is nothing to measure against. The check here is the model number and the serial range, not a specification.
The mistake we see most
Method
How we established this
We opened Toro’s parts listings for model 20339 under both serial ranges we cover and recorded the belt number in each, then compared them against the belt listed for the 20334 across its three. Both product pages were read to confirm each machine’s drive type in Toro’s own wording.

The answer is not the same on every machine, which is the point of checking rather than assuming.
