What decides it

The numbers that matter here

Serial range

315-series takes kit 108-8120; 316- and 400-series take handle 131-4590

Same boundary as the engine maintenance kit — but not the same boundary as the front wheel.

Kit versus single part

Toro names 131-4590 a handle in its listings and a kit on its product page

Toro’s product page for 108-8120 carries its name and nothing else — no contents, no description — so what is in it is not knowable from any Toro page we have found. Ask a dealer before assuming a handle on its own is the same purchase.

Supersession

Not stated on either number’s product page

Neither number’s product page carries a supersession line, and neither listing says one replaces the other, so we do not claim it. Both pages were opened on 21 August; only 131-4590’s says what its part does. Ask a dealer if you need to substitute.

In detail

Choosing handles and controls for this mower

The traction assist part changes at the same point as the engine maintenance kit — between the 315- and 316-series ranges — which makes this the one place on the 20334 where two parts really do move together. That is convenient, and it is also a trap, because the front wheel changes at a different boundary entirely.

The change here may not be a new number for the same thing, though the reason is weaker than it looks. Toro’s listings name the earlier part TRACTION ASSIST KIT [PPG2] and the later one Traction Assist Handle — but 131-4590’s own product page is headed TRACTION ASSIST HANDLE KIT, so the kit-versus-handle distinction is the listings’ rather than Toro’s. We found no description, on the Toro pages we opened, for 108-8120 at all — not a contents list, not a photograph caption — and does not state that 131-4590 supersedes it.

So we can tell you which number Toro lists for which serial range, and nothing else. We are not going to reason from the word "kit" to what might be in the box, because that is guesswork dressed as information, and this is exactly the kind of gap where a confident guess costs someone a return shipment.

We record each part as confirmed for its own ranges and unknown for the others. That is not hedging for its own sake: assuming the two interchange would be inventing a fact Toro has not published.

All fourteen listings are open, so there is no serial this page has not checked: kit 108-8120 for the eight runs up to 315999999, handle 131-4590 for the six from 316000001.

The mistake we see most

Treating a kit and a handle as the same part because they do the same job and appear in the same place on consecutive listings.

Method

How we established this

We read Toro’s parts listings for model 20334 under three serial ranges and recorded the traction assist part shown in each, keeping Toro’s own wording for both, including the bracketed [PPG2] designation.

TRACTION ASSIST HANDLE KIT (Part # 131-4590)

The Toro Company · Primary source · Accessed August 21, 2026

Toro’s product page for the handle, served directly at this number with no redirect and carrying no supersession line in either direction. Two things it publishes that the parts listings do not. Its heading reads TRACTION ASSIST HANDLE KIT, where the listings call the same number Traction Assist Handle — so Toro calls it a kit on one surface and a handle on the other. And it describes the function: a fixed assist handle that lets the operator control a Personal Pace mower’s speed by squeezing the traction bar rather than by walking pace, which Toro suggests helps on tight corners and hills. It states no component count.

    TRACTION ASSIST KIT [PPG2] (Part # 108-8120)

The Toro Company · Primary source · Accessed August 21, 2026

Toro’s product page for the kit, served directly at this number with no redirect. It carries the part name and an order control and nothing else — no description of what the kit contains or does, no photograph caption, no specification, and no line saying this number replaces another or has been replaced. Recorded because "Toro publishes no description for this" is a claim that has to be checked where a description would be, and this is that page.
