Engine maintenance kits for the Toro 20340

This is the part on the 20340 where the model number alone will get you the wrong thing. Toro publishes two parts listings for this mower, one per production run, and the engine maintenance kit is different in each. The earlier 316-series range lists kit 20234, described simply as the Engine Maintenance Kit for Briggs & Stratton Engine. The later 400-series range lists 130-8148, described as the Briggs & Stratton EXi Engine Maintenance Kit Replacement.

So before you order, find the serial number. On this mower it is on the housing — top rear, back rear, or either side — or under the control panel. The first three digits tell you which listing applies to your machine.

We are not going to tell you that one kit is a substitute for the other. The name of 130-8148 contains the word "Replacement", which invites the assumption that it supersedes 20234, and it may well do. But Toro's parts pages present them as the kits for two different serial ranges, not as a supersession, and we have not found a primary source that states one replaces the other. Until we do, we record each kit as confirmed for its own range and unknown for the other. If you are between ranges or your serial number does not match either published range, ask a Toro dealer rather than guessing.

The engine underneath is a Briggs & Stratton 675EXi of 163 cc. Engine service parts are chosen from the engine's own model, type, and code numbers stamped on the engine, not from the mower's model number — so if you are buying filters or plugs individually rather than as a kit, read those off the engine.
