What decides it
The numbers that matter here
- Cutting width
22 in. (56 cm)
Confirms you are looking at the right family of blades. It is not the blade length — the blade is shorter than the swath.
- Blade style
Recycler straight-edge, standard discharge
This is what Toro lists for this deck. Swapping to high-lift or mulching changes how the deck moves clippings, not just how it cuts.
- Serial range
Same blade for 316000001–316999999 and 400000000–401499999
Unusually for this model, the blade does not change between production runs — but the engine maintenance kit does, so check the serial number for other parts.
- Blade length and center hole

The center hole has to match the spindle exactly. We would rather tell you to measure than repeat a figure we have not verified.
In detail
Choosing mower blades for this mower
The 20340 is one of the easier Toro mowers to buy a blade for, because the blade did not change between the two production runs Toro publishes parts for. Both the 316-series and the 400-series serial ranges list the same number, 59534P. That is worth knowing, because on this same machine the engine maintenance kit did change between those ranges — so people who have learned to check their serial number for one part reasonably assume they need to for every part.
The thing to be careful about here is not which number to order, but what the number means. Toro describes 59534P as a Recycler straight-edge, standard-discharge blade. "Recycler" is not a coating or a grade of steel; it describes how the blade and the deck work together to cut clippings small enough to drop back into the lawn. If you almost always bag, a higher-lift blade will move more air into the bag — but it is a different blade style than the one Toro lists for this deck, and it will change how the mower behaves when you are not bagging.
Two figures we deliberately do not publish: the blade's tip-to-tip length and its center-hole shape. Toro does not state either on the pages we verified, and a 22 in. cutting width does not mean a 22 in. blade. Measure the blade you are taking off before you order the one going on.
The mistake we see most
Method
How we established this
We read Toro’s own parts listings for model 20340 under both published serial ranges and recorded the blade number shown on each. We did not take part numbers from retailer listings or search snippets — during research one snippet gave a different blade number for this mower, which Toro’s own pages do not show.
